State Tourism department should start measures to enhance to the Religious Tourism in the district, suggest Superintendent of Police of Mandya in Karnataka Borase Bhushan Gulabrao. He summoned a conference of spiritual leaders at this office in recent times. Other people who were present on the occasion were B J Shobharani and Geetha, Deputy Superintendents of Police and Puttamadappa, Additional Superintendent of Police.
According to Gulabrao, many tourism spots are yet to be developed despite of many tourism spots of spiritual and religious importance in the district. Srirangapatna receives thousands of tourists each day but the guides of that place don’t have enough knowledge about the historical important of that town which otherwise would influence more and more tourists to attend that place.
“Proper dress should be provided to the guides or the Department should provide trained guides in that type of tourism spots which have huge potentiality’, he added.
Gulabrao recommended the Department officials to enhance the renowned religious places in the district into tourism hubs, the district has very significant temples, aged old churches, war memorials, Buddhist monasteries and many other pilgrimage as well as tourism sites which need to be developed and turn into tourists spots.
“Department has several schemes to build up tourist cum religious sites in the district”, said Assistant Director of Karnataka Tourism department, Adilakshmi.
She also underlined about the need to endorse religious tourism in Mandya. Suggestions were received by Shankarappa, Additional deputy Commissioner of Karnataka along with Gulabrao on popularising religious tourism.
Kere Thonnur Dargah, Kunti Betta, Balmuri waterfalls, Kere Thonnur, war memorials at Srirangapatna were the places which were requested by activists Jayaramu and Mahesh, senior citizen Shivaramaiah, social worker Mehboob Pasha, Venkatagiri- Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti leader to the district administration for developing and enhancing it with facilities and all the required amenities.
