Anand Sharma, Minister for Commerce & Industry, Government of India, at the 2nd India-Africa Business Council (IABC) in Johannesburg, South Africa said that Airlines from India will soon recommence their operations to Africa.
Co-chaired by Chairman and Group CEO of the Bharti Enterprises Sunil Bharti Mittal, visa linked issues and air connectivity was among the two subjects that were conversed. The institutional partner for the council is the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
According to Sharma, recommencement of flights to Africa by the Indian airlines including private carriers is guaranteed. Air India will also recommence flying to Africa in 2014 along with Jet Airways which was flying lately. Businessman will travel only when there is better air connectivity, we have been engaged at the uppermost level at the level of the Prime Minister, he added.
He said that both of the countries can spot the apex industry chambers that can aid in this procedure.
“Partners like FICCI and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) are arranged by India for long term business visas provided as a section of understanding. Once, they are promoted by the chambers the partners or the concerned authority can also identify the apex national chambers thus the high commission or the embassy can give the visas. Hence, the apex national chambers in Africa can give advice to Indian high commission and mutually we will quickly provide extended business visas,” Sharma said.
Mittal said, "Long-term, multiple-entry visas and business visas can be provided. It becomes very hard if the visas are given for 2 to 3 months at a time."
According to him, to soften the movement of professionals, governments of African nations and India should elongate the support on the matter. He also projected to provide visa-on-arrival to businessman of both sides.
