Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is world renowned bird sanctuary of South Indian beauty Kerala.

It is located about 16 kms away from Kottayam along the eastern shore of Vembanad Lake. Though a small sanctuary spreading over an area of 14 acres, it is the most fascinating place to be when you are in God’s Own Country. It is home to hundreds of both native as well as migratory birds from places like Siberia and Central Asia.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is also an important tourist attraction which is home to various species of birds. It is an ideal place for bird watching and wildlife trekking tour.

Take an early trek in the morning or before the sunset if you want to spot these lovely creatures. Houseboats can be hired which flow all along the scintillating backwaters around the sanctuary.
