Cochin Carnival 2012-2013 in Fort Kochi

cochin is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Kerala.
Every year thousands of tourists come to this place from all over the world to enjoy its breathtaking natural beauty and get a piece of its world famous charisma. To add more to the glamour of this place is the Cochin Carnival which is a loud celebration of its beauty, culture and tradition of both past and present. 

This is an annual event that is celebrated in Fort Kochi, mostly during the last 10 days of the year which culminates with the arrival of New Year. This carnival is the melting pot of many cultures that exists in Cochin side by side, namely the Portuguese, Dutch, Guajarati, Konkani, Malayalee, Andhra, Kannada, Tamil, Arab, Punjabi and Anglo Indians.  The next Cochin Carnival 2012-2013 in Fort Kochi is scheduled to be held from 9th Deember 2012 to 1st January 2013.

This is the 29th edition of the Carnival and its origins go as back as the 16th century when the Portuguese ruled this region. They began the tradition of celebrating the New Year on the 1st of January and with this started the carnival. Out here one gets to witness and enjoy different forms of art, music, drama, food and other types of entertainment and celebrations that showcase the rich history and culture of this region.

 Beach volley ball, fireworks display, sea swimming, beach football and dirt bike races are some of the different types of games organised for the tourists. Besides all this, another major attraction of this carnival is the rally, which this year will be held on the 1st of January, 2013 in the Veli Ground from 3 pm onwards. The celebrations and other fairs start from 20th of December and continue till the 1st of January.

Cochin Carnival is the much awaited festival by the local as well as the tourists. The preparations of the festival start in advance for hosting various games during the Carnival. People from across Kerala come here in fancy and traditional dress to enjoy the brilliant and the dazzling Cochin Carnival, which showcase rich culture and traditions, host unique spur-of-the-moment competition and multi faceted celebrations.

It is one of the oldest carnivals celebrated in India which started around the 16th century.

HOW TO REACH IN FORT KOCHI

Fort Kochi is a popular tourist destination in Kerala tourism. It is highly known for its Kochi Fort which dates back the early age of Portuguese rule. It is to be found in the region of Kochi city in Kerala, India and 13 km away from Eranakulam town. It plays a vital role in Kerala tourism and one of the promoting destinations. It is well associated with many major cities in Kerala and apart. It is about to the south of Kerala and easily accessible from Cochin. 
You can reach Fort Kochi through roadways, by railways and by airways. It is regarded as one of the most astonishing and beautiful place of the god’s own country. The Fort Kochi is about 64 km away from Alappuzha, 190 km from Thekkady, 223 km from Thiruvananthapuram, 312 km from Ooty, 675 km from Chennai, 80 km from Thrissur and 309 km from Kanniyakumari.  Ferries are the best way in getting to Kochi as it costs less than any other buses or taxis. The nearest railway station is Eranakulam train station and is about 8 km from the station. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport which is about 42 km away from fort Kochi. So, make your right choice while travelling to Kochi.
