Governor States That Goa Needs an Agricultural College

PANAJI: Governor of Goa, B V Wanchoo said that if the production of the vegetables grown locally increased, then the prices too would come down. He also gave a hint to the government to give a thought of establishing an agriculture college in Goa.
Speaking at an event in Panaji, to compliment former director of agriculture and president of the Botanical Society of Goa, H Y Karapukar on his 78th birthday on Monday, the governor stated that for a state like Goa, which relies deeply on its surrounding states for agricultural commodities, agriculture should be measured on a more modern and scientific basis, to fetch maximum efficiency.
He said signifying the regions that remain untilled or where agriculture is mono-crop matter, should be sensibly handled for breeding crops that are appropriate to the local climatic conditions, “Preferably, we should try to become self adequate at least in so far as our necessity of vegetables is concerned.” He uttered his contentment that the state government has been taking eager and dynamic interest in advertising agriculture in a big way in the state.
He said, owing to the absence of a college of agriculture in Goa, he is conscious that students of Goa move to Maharashtra for their studies in agriculture and inquired whether any study has been done about frame up an agriculture college in Goa.
He recommended that the government should possibly give a consideration to this matter, chiefly because it has been showing substantial concern and interest in advertising agriculture in the state through a number of pioneering plans and programmes.
