NEW DELHI: devastating cyclone and Phailin with the miserable flooding has left Odisha with nothing overall cancellation of bookings by an indoor and outdoor traveler has caused a lot of damage and has left Odisha with footprints of loss, as said by industry stakeholders.
As the government of state earns plenty from a tourism sector which accounts over 10 billion per year, now has left a box of cupid with shades of dry season. Mohanty further added, cyclone Phailin, struck the state during a time of pick tourism.
Phailin has caused a lot of damage to a hotels and resort established near the beaches of Puri and Gopalpur. Perhaps renovation is under its way but damage has caused a major hamper to a sector of tourism, as said by, J K Mohanty, chairman of the Odisha Hotel Association, told IANS on phone.
We had a number of bookings for whole of October but the destruction caused by Phailin, has asked to cancel nearly 50% of the bookings as the people feared their life, added by Mohanty, who is also chairman and managing director of Swosti Group, a premium hotel chain in the state.
As the cyclone arrived at a mid of second week of October, government had instructed hoteliers to evacuate a land as soon as possible near the beach area, which had saved many lives of a people.
As Odisha is Renowned for its Jagannath temple in puri, beach tourism. Wildlife, eco and cultural tourism. This season has been a dramatic for Odisha.
Main attractions of a state are Golden Triangle of Puri, Konark and Bhubaneswar beside that a beauty of chilka lake, Gopalpur-on-Sea, Chandipur, Dhauli and Sambalpur. All remained silent as the major damage have been caused to Chilka Lake and as per the sources to reconstruct it again would take a number of years.
Saroj Kumar Samal, managing director of Tropical Vacations (India) Pvt Ltd, a travel agency, said he had seen at least 30 per cent cancellation of bookings for October.
He further added a November was booked for foreign arrivals to witness eco tourism, but a Phailin has caused a cancellation of over 30% of the bookings. Since the wave of cyclone has devastated a forest we are now focusing to convince a rest of a bookie.
Though we have lost many important files by a hit of cyclone, we are more focusing to save the rest of a bookie by sending them a message as it is safe to visit so that industry could run again said by Samal.
With a cancellation of over 70to 80% the rest are now scared about their visit, as said by Harihar Patra, director, marketing, Toshali Resorts. Toshali resort which is just 2 km away from a beach of Puri many got stuck due to a cyclone.
He added by sharing their experience how they managed a tourist by engaging them at recreational center as all the connection of communication was rundown by a cyclone, there was no electricity even all we managed through generators.
However, some of the hoteliers are trying to turn this difficulty into benefit and are cheering visitors to take on sightseeing tours of the cyclone ravaged state.
