“Tourism And Water: Protecting Our Common Future” To Be the Main Theme of 2013 WTD


The headquarters of World Tourism Organization situated in Spain has declared “Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future” as the main theme for the 2013 World Tourism Day (WTD). World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27, every year. This year, theme has been decided in support of United Nations International Year of Water Cooperation, as stated in a release. This theme focuses on tourism’s role in water access and puts a spotlight on the activities being taken at present by the sector to ensure a more viable water future, as well as the challenges to be faced in the near future. The official WTD celebration is going to be held in Maldives on September 27, while UNWTO will be presenting many links between tourism and water through the year.


In order to mark the occasion, India tourism, Mumbai (Ministry of Tourism, Government of India) has prearranged for “Incredible India Tourism Walk” from Air India building to Girgaum Chowpatty. The walk will be taken part by significant members from the travel and tourism and hotel associations, federations, Chamber of Commerce, state tourism officials, guides, senior officials, principals from leading travel institutes and colleges. The walk will initiate at 8.30 am on WTD.
Students from Institute of Hotel Management participating at the Walk are from, Dadar; SNDT College, Juhu; Garware Institute, Kalina; Bharatiya Vidyapeeth, Naveen Mumbai, Vashi; Kohinoor Institute of Hotel Management, Dadar; Thomas Cook Centre of Learning, Mumbai and many more. In addition to this, the travel trade from Mumbai, tourist guides of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and other significant officials will also take part in the Walk.
India tourism, Mumbai had also organized an essay competition among students of all the above colleges on the World Tourism Day theme, in order to bring awareness on the topic. A drawing competition was also conducted among the students of Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in Mumbai. In the afternoon, the Indian Merchants’ Chamber, Mumbai, is going to award the winners of the best three essays and drawings.
In addition to this, travellers landing by the first international flight on the 2013 WTD early morning will be welcomed in a traditional way with mementos at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai. A traditional welcome will also be organised in the city office of Churchgate for the first visiting female and male tourists.
