The award was presented in New Delhi by Portugal’s ambassador to India Jorge Roza de Oliveira.
Kerala has been a major centre of attraction in Asia and its tourism initiatives are much fascinating that any tourist visiting the state would fall in love with. The award was given on the basis of an online readers’ poll which was conducted over five months.
In January Kerala won UN World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) and the state was presented with Ulysses Prize for sustainable tourism. It is the first prize for Indian tourism board.
Last month in the leading world’s tourism event at ITB Berlin, Kerala tourism was awarded with “Golden City Gate award” for the best print media campaign on the backwaters.
The magic of Kerala tourism did not left any stone unturned to cast magical spell over National Tourism Awards for 2012-13. It begged four top prizes at the event National Tourism Awards 2012-13, did not stop here, it also won four top prizes
Kerala Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar said "It is an important award for Kerala because we are committed to preserving nature and respecting our cultural heritage and local communities,"
Suman Billa Kerala Tourism Secretary who received the two awards said 'Responsible Tourism' is the guiding philosophy and policy of Kerala Tourism,".
Looking at the growing popularity of Kerala and more of all the initiative taken by the authority and tourism department, it is for sure, in coming years, Kerala is going to be one of the top 10 must visit destination in the world. Sustainable tourism and eco friendly tourism initiatives are praise world over and with so much of care and awareness spread all over related to tourism of Kerala, tourism from across the world are coming to Kerala to witness its magic.
