The Beauty of Muziris Heritage Project to Unfold Soon



Muziris Heritage Project is one of the biggest conservations project in the modern history of India, where the central and the state government works together to preserve the culture and history, that is left by our ancestors from around the world.


The project preserves some of the world most significant riddles of the past, that even today in the world of technology, one gets to walk on the same path which was once travelled by our ancestors, explorers and traders. 

Under this project, the Kerala Government has opened up four museums namely Kerala History Museum in Paliam Kovilakam, Kerala Jews Historical Museum in Paravur Synagogue, Kerala Lifestyle Museum in Paliam Nalukettu and Kerala Jews Lifestyle Museum in Chendamangalam Synagogue. 

These four historical museums are well equipped with video screens, touch screens and information panels, which will help visitors to know about the history of the regions. The museum depicts the beauty and the era of the “Lost City”, that played a crucial role in building the socio-political culture of the state Kerala, as per a release. The museums will also provide close analysis of the ancient port city, which disappeared mysterious after 1st century AD.  

S Harikishore IAS, Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala, who opened the museums for public, said that Muziris Heritage project would be open after the completion of various activity centre and research centre. 

Hop-on-hop off boat services, activity centre and many other essential centres are yet to be completed and once it does, the project will be opened for general public which would bring the vivid and vast past of the bygone era to the world. S Harikishore IAS, Director, Department of Tourism said, “We decided to open the museum as the conservations projects finished on time and we also deployed guides and management staffs in the museum. 

Along with four museums, visitors to this site can also visit few important heritage sites like Pattanam, Paravur Market, Kottappuram Fort, Kottapuram Market, Cheraman Juma Masjid, Gothuruthu Performance Centre and Pallipuram Fort”. He also said the museums would be open from 10 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. Monday all the museums will be closed. 

A P Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism, Government of Kerala, said, “Muziris Heritage Project is one of the biggest conservations projects in not just Kerala but in the modern history of India. It has brought the central and the state government together to work on this project, which has been able to conserve and showcase the socio-culture and history of the bygone era”. 

He also added, “The Project gives people an opportunity to walk the same road once travelled by explorers and traders in ancient Muziris.”

Suman Billa, Secretary Tourism, Government of Kerala said, “The Muziris Heritage Project focuses on involvement of local communities and sustainability. The Project is carried out on international guidelines such as the UNESCO Charters on heritage conservation”.

 The Muziris Heritage Project is appreciated by many international countries and the efforts of the state government’s conservation efforts is well backed by UNESCO and tne United National World Tourism Organizations (UNWTO).
