As Odisha celebrates the dance festival every year this
time also the Department of Tourism and Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy is going
to present you the extravaganza of dance festival of this year 1st to 5th
December, 2013.
Each year, the renowned festival of classical dance and
music celebrated during the month of December is performed in the scenic city
of Konark, along with the outstanding view of the Sun temple at the background.
The temple is located on the
Chandrabhaga beach of Konark, at a distance of about 65 km from Bhubaneshwar
near the sacred city of Puri in Orissa.
This annual festival was first organized in 1989 with an
objective to endorse Konark as one of the top tourist destinations in the
country. Dance lovers will surely love this festival, as it includes dance
forms such as Odissi, Bharatnatayam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam and
Sattriya, which are highly appreciated by the tourists from all over the world.
The event also involves local folks that are much cherished by the visitors. As
the years have passed by, the festival has even bigger and more interesting, as
on this year, about 10 national and international renowned artists are
participating at this enthralling festival. The list includes Sadanam
Balakrishnan, Aloka Kanungo, Singhjit Singh, Dr. Alekhya Punjala, Anitha Guha,
Rani Karnaa and Ileana Citaristi and many more.
This year, you will witness well known artists of Odisha
along with artists from different corners of India, like Raipur, Chennai, Kerala,
Manipur, Hyderabad and Kolkata, performing on the grand stage of this festival.
You will also experience the combination of painting and
music on this festival. A Crafts Mela has also been organized alongside the
Konark Festival, in order to exhibit the craftsmanship of the artists of the
region to the visitors. The Crafts Mela will put on display the interesting
sculptures and other handicrafts of the regional artists along with some
scrumptious dishes on service.
The entry passes for the Konark festival can be purchased
for Rs 400, which is for the entire five days of the festival. Passes on per day basis are available at the
venue.
