Less Time to Travel More in The God’s Own Country

The government of Kerala has taken various measures to increase the standard of living of the state. Undoubtedly most of them have worked out. A step further has been taken to provide better transportation facility so as to ease travelling by the city dwellers as well as thousands of tourists
who visit the grand state for refreshment, vacation, adventure and many more thrilling activities. A total of 18 trains would be upgraded as Superfast trains by the end of next months, and many other long- distance travelling trains which require time would be made shorter in terms of time by first September, when the new railway time table will be announced.

According to Divisional Railway Manager, Sunil Bajpai, the plan to decrease the running time of major long distance running trains would be possible mainly by cutting down the number of stops of the train. It would be very inconvenient to shorten the time by increasing the speed of the trains which are already running at the peak speed of 100km/hr in many sectors of the state. He has firm belief that this step would certainly relief the tourist and long distance commuters.

The list of trains that would be converted into Superfast trains by July 17th this year are-
Chennai-Alleppey Express,
Chennai Central-Mangalore West Coast Express,
Thiruvananthapuram- Indore Ahilyanagari Express,
Thiruvananthapuram-Shalimar (bi-weekly) Express,
Patna-Ernakulam (bi-weekly) Express,
Korba-Thiruvananthapuram (bi-weekly) Express,
Chennai Central-Erode Yercaud Express,
Chennai Central-Palani Express (both directions).
Time table and route of few trains have been changed. The new time table and the planned new route would come into effect from Tuesday onwards.

Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil Passenger which earlier left Thiruvananthapuram at seventeen hours fifteen minutes would now depart from the station fifteen minutes before at seventeen hours and is expected to reach the destination at nineteen hours ten minutes.]

The Gorakhpur-Thiruvananthapuram Raptisgar Express which runs three days a week (Tuesday,Saturday,Sunday) would reach the destination (Thiruvananthapuram) at nineteen hours fifteen minutes which would be fifteen minutes earlier than the earlier schedule from 5th of July.

The route of Chennai Mail and Kannur-Yeshvantpur Express has been changed. The Chennai Mail that runs between Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai Central will enroute Coimbatore with a stop at Coimbatore. The train that would have its final destination as Cental Chennai would depart from Thiruvananthapuram at fourteen hours five minutes in lieu of fourteen hours thirty minutes. The Kannur-Yeshvantpur Express would also be diverted via Coimbatore and to shorten the travel time of this train the stop at Podhanur would be eliminated.
