By 2020, the tourism industry of Sikkim has
set a goal to draw one lakh global tourists and 20 lakh domestic tourists in
the state, he added. He said, that the major preparations for endorsing tourism
activities are by crafting and boosting main tourist circuits, commencing new
trekking routes, undertaking aggressive marketing at international markets and
opening more areas for domestic and foreign tourists along with strengthening
the various tourism related infrastructure by opening several institutes.
He told that, some of the key Tourism related
Human Resource Development institutes in the state are Food Craft Institute of
Namchi, Indian Himalayan centre for Adventure & Eco-tourism of Chemchey and
The Institute of Hotel Management of Sajong.
Along with the varied famed Buddhist
institutions which are renowned among the scholars from across the globe
Buddhist circuits are also being expanded and enlarged to endorse religious
tourism in the state, he said. By 2015 Sikkim will develop the Principal
Tourism destination in South and South East Asia, he added.
To offer pinnacle precedence to eco-tourism
and protecting environment and valuable bequest of nature in the Himalayas, the
state government has set up Sikkim Eco-Tourism Directorate and Sikkim
Eco-Tourism Council respectively, he said.
Dhungel said, to achieve higher growth
possible in tourism and to make certain of all socio economic growth in the
state the state government has given Thrust division to tourism in Sikkim. Home
stay scheme has also been commenced for offering hygienic amenities to
travelers in homely ambience making it easier for them to learn about the
customs, culture and traditions of the diverse communities that reside in
Sikkim.
Youth Adventure Festival, International Mountain
Biking Expedition, International Paragliding festivals are organized by the
state government to endorse adventure tourism and other tourism.
