Landscaping and flooring works on the Ernakulam boat jetty
establishments will kick start from Friday. The project work of Rs 50 lakh
initiated by the Kerala Tourism Department was delayed because of the ownership
issues between the Tourism and Transport Departments.
The issue has been resolved a few months back.
According to the officials within the department, they are
preparing to go ahead with the work even though authentic orders on their
ownership are yet to be passed.
The officials within the department said, “The boat Jetty
has been lying in a ramshackle condition for many years. This is why we took a
decision to put in a fresh application to set up backyards as well as beautify
the area.
Tiles will be laid entirely on the premises of the Tourism Department
building so that the public won’t have to step on the muddy area.”Parking harbour will also be established which will prove to
be useful for both tourists as well as boat passengers who arrive at the jetty.
An amount of Rs 2 lakh has been set aside for the
restoration of the information cabins in the area. The work will be undertaken
by KITCO. The officials added, “We have not set a time limit to complete the
work. Nevertheless, we expect the work to be completed within a short time span.”
In the meantime, the KSEB had provided connections to the
three pole lights at the jetty. Previously, the visitors who arrived by boat
had to flounder in the darkness if they had to leave the boat jetty. The
Tourism Department authorities have also informed that tenders will soon be
called for the implementation of the booths which have been lying inactive on
the jetty premises for years.
